Child Safeguarding:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

The role

Save the Children is recruiting for an experienced Project Director to lead a flagship girls' education programme across DRC. The project brings together an experienced group of international and local implementing organisations to deliver a the second phase of a high quality, integrated programme focused on improving girls' access to, retention and achievement in primary education as well as their transition to secondary schools. The Project Director will provide overall strategic and operational leadership in the consortium with other renowned international partners. He/she will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the consortium. The Project Director must bring a senior leadership profile with a proven track record in managing complex programming delivery in fragile and conflict affected countries, notably in the education sector. The position will ultimately contribute to Save the Children's learning on girls' education and education delivery in conflict-affected and fragile environments.

The Project Director is responsible for ensuring programme delivery and quality, through capacity building of staff and partners, activities planning, implementation and monitoring, including data collection and analysis of impact and durable changes brought about by the girls' education programme in the areas of responsibility. S/he is also responsible for representing the organization in all programmatic coordination platforms. The Project Director is responsible for approximately 30 staff and a large-scale multi-year and multi-location grant of about £20M.

Profil recherché

Relevant university degree (Education or other Social Science, International Development, etc.)
Sound knowledge of the DRC education system including institutions, policies and legal frameworks.
Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically.
At least 5 years experience of working in the education sector.
At least 5 years' experience of working at senior management level within fragile or conflict affected states.
Prior experience in managing DFID funded programmes
Prior experience in management of consortia.
Prior experience
Knowledge and working experience of Child's Rights Programming approach.
Proven skills in programme management and administration, including grants management aspects and donors' compliance.
Experience of building, leading and developing a team of senior staff with different backgrounds and expertise.
Skills and experience in programme monitoring review, reporting and evaluation.
Strong skills in people management, moderation, conflict resolution and capacity-building.
Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.
Ability to lead a programme and support a team working from remote locations.
Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Expertise in gender and sexual and reproductive health issues, relating to girls' education specifically.
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children aims, values and principles.
Experience in protection programming.
Working experience in other countries of the Great Lakes context in challenging and insecure areas.
Experience in promoting children's participation in programming, design, implementation and evaluation.
Experience working on Education in Emergency and/or general education programming whether in emergency response contexts or fragile states.
The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult working circumstances.
Previous safety and security training for working in conflict settings
Commitment to and understanding of child rights, humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct.
